Star West Log Pups & Crib Trailers

U.P. Truck Center began building its Star West brand of pup trailers back in 1995, one year after they became a Western Star truck dealer. The very first trailer was sold to Paul Bellmore in July of 1995. Since that time the trailers have evolved significantly and the company has now built and sold well over 150 trailers.

Customization is a focal point for U.P. Truck Center.

“We do not build cookie cutter trailers here” added Todd Johnson, Sales Manager for U.P. Truck Center. “We sit down and have pre-build meetings and discuss things right down to the finer details. We feel that our ability to provide a true customized trailer is what really sets us apart from our competition.”

The majority of the trailers U.P. Truck Center manufactured over the years were the 4 and 5 axle Michigan log pup variety, with some 2 and 3 axle pups mixed in periodically. In the fall of 2014, Shamco, Inc. out of Iron River, MI. inquired if U.P. Truck would be interested in building a 7 axle rail trailer. By May of 2015, the first Star West 7 axle rail trailer was designed, manufactured and delivered. Shamco has purchased several more of these trailers in both a seven axle and a three axle configuration.

Ryan Carey, President of J. Carey Logging had this to say when asked about Star West Trailers and his relationship with U.P. They put together a new Western Star log truck and a Star West 4 axle pup in 2015 and we were very happy with the quality of the fabrication, the truck, and also how fast everything was put together. When we learned that crib trailers were also being built at U.P. Truck, we knew it would be a quality product that would be a good fit for our operation. We took delivery of the 100^th Star West trailer in December of 2016. We have been very happy with it. I wouldn’t be surprised if this trailer is still hauling wood when my children are involved in the business. It is really built to last”

In addition to manufacturing Star West Trailers, U.P Truck Center, Inc. is also a complete Western Star Truck dealer, providing sales, service and parts departments. The ability to set-up complete log trucks, including lift axles, custom log racks and loader installs has made the company truly unique in this region.

The company also has provided some additional innovative products like the ARC pin style hitch design and the Durastake II aluminum log stakes.
